Answer To Library Closures?

I gather there were riots when Tisbury took to the streets about the impending closure of the local library due to lack of funding.

Thousands rose up in protest! Books and pictures of Council Members were burnt in the High Street! The National Press & TV News led with the story! Ladies and young children hand-cuffed themselves to the Library door! It took hundreds of police with shields and water cannons to quell the uprising! Many have been imprisoned?

Yeah Right – As if!’

‘Times are hard so why not all muck in and volunteer to keep the Library running? I am certain there are loads of people who would love to do this unpaid social job. Mixing with people and chatting to locals would be great fun for many us, struggling to survive to pay monstrous fuel costs to just get to work or the shops, let alone anything else. Maybe local investment bankers, from Banks we actually own, after helping them out of the shit they made for themselves and us, as well as our children, should be forced to give up some of their time usually devoted to spending their zillions, to volunteer and help out, and in between, perhaps they could assist with sweeping the streets and policing the town.

Here’s another thought – So many pubs and small shops are going out of business as well, why not turn Pubs into Libraries and General Stores? Let’s see if legislation can be passed to do this? It happens in Ireland, so why not here? It seems very logical to me – I can just imagine going to The Bennett Arms and asking for a dozen screws, four candles, a reel of white cotton, a pint of best and an Emily Brontë thrown in for good measure. It all makes sense to me!’
